It is needed for a banal purpose - to help you save on the exchange (think of making money) by choosing the best rate for converting electronic money, and also not to get scammed by unscrupulous exchangers, monitoring only those who have a decent reputation.

I’ll say right away that some exchangers offer a cumulative discount and over time, it will be more profitable for you to exchange currencies with them than even with competitors that this service finds. The best exchangers of this class today are:

If you are planning not one-time exchanges, but regular ones, then it is better to choose something from the list above, register there and accumulate a discount for future exchange transactions. IMHO.

But don't judge strictly. I just suddenly remembered that I had almost a hundred bucks lying around, which I couldn’t withdraw to my bank account, because for this I had to open a foreign currency account, and I was too lazy to bother.
